The Whole Kitchen Bakery Café is the store front expansion of the The Whole Kitchen (TWK) brand from Singapore-based, Aussie entrepreneurs, Susan Soulard and Anne Bradley and a delicious new addition to the Katong food scene.

Everything on the menu is gluten free, all natural, nutrient-packed, refined sugar free, and made with whole food ingredients, they also have options for anyone following a vegan, dairy free, paleo, keto, and low carb diet.

The café is tucked around the corner from the main East Coast Road drag in Ean Kiam Place and it’s a pretty and relaxing spot to brunch. The menu is exciting and reasonably priced and the Allpress coffee is excellent.

I started with the flavour-packed signature Mumbai Sandwich ($15); cucumber, heirloom tomato, chaat masala, cheese, and coriander chutney on toasted country 7-seed bread, complete with a house-made Kasundi. I’d definitely order this Indian street food inspired plate again.

Mumbai Sandwich

I love trying the house avo toast wherever I go and TWK’s take ($18) is a fresh and colourful version. Perfectly ripe avocado on a 7-seed sourdough loaf with a side of hard boiled, cage free egg, sprinkled with pepper pepitas and a vibrant pink kraut.

I also enjoyed the Banana Toastie ($14), on classic country loaf with house-made peanut butter and hazelnut cacao and a side of berries. With TWK’s philosophy of refined sugar free, this sandwich let the quality ingredients do all the talking and hit the sweet spot without the sugar hangover.

The café also has a well-stocked display cabinet of cakes and daily specials and you can pick up any of your favourite TWK products from instore too.

Verdict: A safe haven for those with food intolerances / allergies and a great choice for those who love clean eating without compromising on taste. A must visit on your East Coast list.
