What to do in August: An SG60 Special

When Singapore celebrates, it does so properly – and SG60 is no exception. On 9 August, our little red dot hits the big six‑oh, and this year’s theme Majulah Singapura reminds us there’s plenty to cheer about – and more to come. Expect the works: air force flypasts, parachute daredevils, dazzling parades, concerts under the stars, and fireworks so bright you’ll see them from every corner. Whether you’re heading out for National Day dining deal, fancy staycay package, claiming a rooftop spot at Marina Bay, or catching a heartland show closer to home, there’s no shortage of ways to toast Singapore’s milestone birthday in style. Here’s what’s on and where to be.

National Day Parade at The Padang & Marina Bay

If you prefer the real thing to a rehearsal, hit The Pandang and Marina Bay on Saturday 9 August, from 7.30pm, for The Main Event which promises to be a show like no other. Bring your crew, claim your favourite spot, and watch the sky light up.

Gardens by the Bay & MediaCorp National Day Concert

A Night Of Local Hits & Heart makes this concert a brilliant alternative if you don’t want the fuss of The Padang. On 9 August, 4:15pm – 9pm, head to The Meadow for a free evening under the stars with Singapore’s favourite voices such as Kit Chan, Taufik Batisah, Charlie Lim and more. When the lights dim and the city skyline glows, settle in for the big finale: fireworks viewed from your picnic mat.

The National Museum of Singapore Light Up & Picnic

Heritage, hands-on fun, and fireworks are all rolled into one at the museum this year. From now until 9 August, step inside Singapore’s National Museum for free and enjoy family-friendly crafts, LEGO displays, and scavenger hunts spread across four buzzing floors. If you go on National Day, roll out your picnic blanket on the Front Lawn and catch the parade live on screen.

RSAF Island Flypast & Heartland Celebrations

The SG60 party will continue on 10 August as the Republic of Singapore Air Force brings four F‑16s looping over Bishan, Punggol, Yishun, Geylang, and Bukit Gombak. Down on the ground, each heartland spot will have its own festival vibe; think drone displays, fireworks, music, art walls and family games. So rally the neighbours and celebrate SG60 with the locals where it feels like home.
