Skills, drills & gameplay with ANZA Singapore Wombats
The season is in full swing on and off the pitch for ANZA Singapore Wombats, with a whole programme of ways to stay fit, active and connected through the group. Training sessions have been gathering pace under the guidance of club coach Stew Gray, whose energy and expertise are driving both the Wombats and Wombettes forward. With a focus on skills, drills and gameplay, each session is designed to sharpen every aspect of footy, whether you’re completely new to the sport or a seasoned player still mastering the ever-elusive “don’t drop the easy mark.” Our F45 classes, strength and conditioning sessions and running clubs are also keeping up momentum, ensuring there’s something for everyone. Special thanks to Luciano at F45 for keeping motivation high, to Col Eddison for his ongoing contribution to running, and to Yanni and Branchy at The Rogue Method Physiotherapy for their support.

Of course, we’ve made space for downtime too, with our Wombats and Wombettes recently coming together for a day of laughs at Tanjong Beach. Leading the charge was the team’s self-appointed “fun police,” Clare Leighton, who orchestrated a series of games – from kicking accuracy challenges and spinning bats to musical icebergs – combining friendly competition with some high jinx. After working up an appetite, the group made their way to BQ Bar to catch some footy and have a few drinks, adding a social highlight to the season.

Who are ANZA Singapore Wombats?
Founded on the red dot in 1993, ANZA Singapore Wombats have grown from strength to strength over the past 33 years. What began as a humble group of 10 men, simply eager to play footy, has evolved into a thriving club. Over the years, the Wombats have toured throughout Asia to Hong Kong, Malaysia, Bali and Thailand building experience and camaraderie along the way. Their success has seen the teams claiming the Asian Championships in 2005, 2006 and 2025. In 2019, the club expanded its legacy with the introduction of the Wombette mascot, marking the beginning of a women’s team. Since then, the ANZA Singapore Wombettes have gone gangbusters, joining international tours and adding to the club’s growing list of achievements, with Asian Championship wins in 2022, 2025 and 2026. From humble beginnings to regional recognition, ANZA Singapore Wombats embody passion, camaraderie and the true spirit of footy. Head to anza.org.sg/sports/wombats
