HDB & The North of Singapore

Discover the authentic heart of Singaporean life on this tour of north Singapore. Every Singaporean dreams of owning their own HDB flat – public housing that’s beautifully planned, community-oriented, and uniquely Singaporean.

We begin at the HDB Gallery in Toa Payoh, where we’ll explore how these homes are built, allocated and cherished as part of Singapore’s national identity. From there, we travel north to Yishun and Chong Pang, lively neighbourhoods and visit one of Singapore’s three columbaria — respectfully known by locals as an “HDB for the departed” — a serene and surprisingly beautiful oasis amid the heartlands.

In Chong Pang, you’ll experience true local life: bustling wet markets, vibrant hawker centres, endless shop rows and casual alfresco dining. See how locals enjoy a comfortable lifestyle with an average income of S$2,200–S$2,800, and treat yourself to a kopi break or a refreshing fresh juice with a light snack.

Next, we head to Sembawang, home to Singapore’s largest enclave of Black and White colonial houses. Originally built for the British Navy, these elegant homes are now occupied by the American military. Beautifully restored and surrounded by lush tropical greenery, this area preserves part of the last 1% of Singapore’s natural rainforest. Our tour concludes with a visit to our guide’s own HDB flat in Sembawang.
