Tiong Bahru Heritage Tour 19 August

Join us to explore Tiong Bahru, Singapore’s most stylish Art Deco neighbourhood. Beneath its café culture and independent boutiques lies a rich history of people, architecture and community.

Find out how the area got its name, why Block 78 has three different addresses and how it earned its reputation as the “neighbourhood of beautiful women” many years ago. Along the way, our guide will share insights into the distinctive pre- and post-war Bauhaus-inspired architecture that makes this estate unlike any other in Singapore.

You’ll wander through the streets lined with cafes and boutiques, alongside family-run businesses that have been serving the community for generations, including that of Alice Wang, the cobbler who works from her ground-floor apartment window.

You’ll also sample Mrs Cheng’s award-winning gula melaka chiffon cake, discover murals by Singaporean artist Yip Yew Chong, uncover a pre-war air raid shelter, visit the Monkey God Temple and stop by the famous Birds’ Corner. The tour ends at Tiong Bahru Wet Market and Hawker Centre.
