Net gains for ANZA Netball!

TNA 9U players

Singapore’s carnival season got off to a flying start for ANZA’s youngest netballers. The 7U players – ANZA Athenas and ANZA Artemis – made their carnival debut at The Netball Academy’s Mini Carnival at Bedok Green Primary School, competing in a round robin against TNA and Singapore Netball Academy (SGNA) teams. It was a brilliant first taste of competitive play with lots of personal achievement and fun on the side.

Elsewhere, our 9U girls brought their A-game at Kallang Netball Centre, with four ANZA teams entering TNA’s Mini Carnival across two divisions. The 2017-born squads faced strong competition from SGNA, Charmaine Netball Academy, TNA and Centaurs, with three ANZA teams making the finals: ANZA Meteors, ANZA Novas and ANZA Asteroids. Big shout-outs go to ANZA Novas, who remained undefeated throughout the day, and to ANZA Meteors who fought hard to secure a thrilling win in extra time, placing them third overall. There were hot and happy faces all round at the final whistle! As always, huge thanks to our volunteer coaches who kept everything running smoothly.

Levelling Up

ANZA Netball’s professional coaches have had a busy time, running a series of skills development courses for both our players and volunteer coaches. Several Netball Rules Introductory Courses have taken place over recent months, offering a solid first step for those looking to sharpen their knowledge of netball, whether they’re new to the game or just want to feel more confident on court.

Buoyed by their popularity, ANZA Netball offered two further courses. The Introduction to Coaching Clinic supported volunteer teen and adult coaches with some smart theory and practical training, covering the role of the coach, demonstrating skills, the “change it” approach and tips on managing a group. The attendees all enjoyed the session, particularly when they had to pretend to be a distracted six-year-old to challenge the trainee coaches!

In addition, the Introduction to Netball Umpiring course covered the fundamentals of the role, helping participants to recognise infringements and apply penalties with confidence, again combining theory with practical sessions. Brimming with new know-how, ANZA Netball is top of the class!
