Lush bites for little ones!

Wynona with daughters Ivy and Poppy

If kids’ party food conjures up visions of jelly, cocktail sausages (on sticks for poking friends with, naturally), and Fairy Bread drowning in rainbow sprinkles, think again. While we’re not against the odd E-number-fuelled feast, times and tastes have changed. With parents more mindful of what goes into little tummies. the humble children’s party spread has had quite the glow-up.

Expat Wynona Leach, Founder and Creative Director of Lush Platters (lushplatters.com), is a pioneer of this upgrade. Since 2017, her beautifully styled grazing tables have been centre stage at some of Singapore’s most stylish events – think Dyson, Rolex, and ANZA, no less. Now, she’s turning her creative focus to the next generation of foodies with Lil’ Grazers, her range of bite-sized, balanced platters and bento boxes especially for children.

What inspired you to cater to kids?
My very first grazing table was actually for my daughter Poppy’s sixth birthday party, but Lush Platters has become more known for platters for corporate events. However, over the past nine years, I never lost sight of how much kids love having their own food to explore. Lil’ Grazers officially launched at the end of 2025.

What can we expect from the range?
More variety and creativity to make family entertaining even easier. Lil’ Grazers offers new sandwich options with enticing fillings and a wider selection of hot food. We’re also introducing healthier sweet treats and themed bento boxes that change with the seasons. There’ll be party pack bundles that combine everything from sandwiches to warm bites and desserts, all presented with our signature Lush touch.

How do the kids’ platters differ from those at ANZA events?
The ingredients are simpler, the portions smaller but satisfying, and the presentation can be more tailored to children’s tastes. Food is cut into easy-to-eat pieces and can be non-spicy and nut-free. Each platter may include fresh fruit, sandwiches, simple dips, veggie sticks, pastries, and sweet treats for balance. Colour, texture, and shape make the food inviting while keeping it delicious.

Any obvious faves?
Our kid-friendly sandwich boxes are a clear winner due to being simple and nourishing. The Lush Kids Bento is another top choice, perfectly portioned, mess-free, and full of variety. The new Kids Lush Platter is also popular – a colourful mix of fruit, veggies, dip, chicken sausages, animal biscuits, cheese, and pretzels. Alongside these, our sausage rolls and mini pies never fail to please.

Are there any trends in what kids – and parents – are asking for?
Parents are seeking food that’s fun and wholesome, with less processed and more real ingredients. Occasional treats are fine, but balance is key. There’s growing interest in plant-based and allergy-friendly options, particularly nut-free. Presentation matters too, as parents want spreads that are photo-ready yet simple for kids to enjoy.

“We can adapt menus to be vegetarian, egg-free, dairy-free, gulten-free, and nut-free”

Do you cater for special diets or allergies?
Absolutely. While our kitchen is not allergen-free, we can adapt items and menus for vegetarian, egg-free, dairy-free, gluten-free, or nut-free preferences. The goal is always to make sure every child can enjoy something appetising and safe.

What’s your best advice for parents planning food for a kids get-together?
Keep it simple, colourful, and easy to grab. Avoid fussy dishes. Kids love variety, not complexity. Include a mix of savoury, fruit, and a small, sweet treat, and always have water or simple drinks nearby.

Any tips for a party spread that looks good without the stress?
Themes always work well. Add height with cake stands or boxes, brighten things up with fruit or edible flowers, and keep portions bite-sized. A grazing table can double as décor, so choose a few wow items and keep the rest balanced and neat. We often decorate with fresh tropical leaves for extra style.

What’s the most common mistake you see at children’s parties?
Overcomplicating. Parents often make too much food or include dishes that don’t hold well. Stick to simple, flavourful options that can sit out on a table safely and still taste great, such as sandwiches, veggie sticks, fruit platters, mini pastries, and baked items.

As this is ANZA’s schools issue, what’s your advice for a winning lunchbox?
Lunchboxes should feel like a mini grazing platter – balanced, bright, and full of flavour. Aim for one protein, one fruit, one veggie, one wholegrain, and one small treat. Try cheese and cucumber or chicken on wholegrain bread, carrot sticks with hummus, a handful of grapes and berries, and a brownie bite. It looks good, tastes moreish, and keeps little grazers happy until home time.
