Where to find Singapore’s best vintage vinyl stores

For those of a certain age, there’s no sound quite like the faint crackle of a stereophonic needle hitting vinyl. It’s an experience that was mostly over by 1985, when the far less exciting cassette tape took over – but now, listening bars, cafes with serious music collections and independent record stores are all part of a growing music scene across the Lion City. Here’s where to head. No energetic jumping near the turntable, please.

This super-cool spot presents as a calm coffee shop by day, before transforming into a vinyl lover’s dream come nightfall. A vintage collection – much of it from the owner’s personal stash – lines the walls, spanning everything from Japanese jazz singers to American funk and soul. At the end of the bar, a turntable and speakers set the tone, while drinks celebrate traditional shochu. Guest DJ nights are also a fixture.
